A 10 day Northern Vietnam Adventure Tour is the way to go if you enjoy getting off the beaten track. Visit the amazing lakes of Ba Be and get to know the locals with a home stay. Explore caves in Cao Bang and visit Ban Gioc, Vietnam’s biggest waterfall. Visit the border town of Lang Son and spent the night on Glory cruise on majestic Halong Bay. Explore the area and try your hand at kayaking or just relax. See Cat Ba Island and try you hand at rock climbing. Take a day tour of all Hanoi’s main sites and experience a cyclo ride in the towns old quarter.
Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be (220 km)
This exotic tour in the north-east begins when you leave your hotel in Hanoi and drive over the undulating terrain of tea plantations to Thai Nguyen city. Stop off there to visit a Museum. Then continue your journey through many other timeless villages dotted along the road which is the main artery of trade between the north-east region and the capital city. This will be your first glimpse of rural Vietnam and sets the tone for the days ahead. Arrive at Ba Be lakes at midday. After checking into your home stay in Pac Ngoi village of the Tay people, you will have free time to explore. Dinner and overnight in Ba Be. (Ba Be guest house )
Day 2 : Ba Be Lake – boating and canoeing
Spend the whole day at Ba Be lakes, one of the north-east regions premier beauty spots. Familiarize yourself with the techniques of canoeing, then transfer to a boat dock and glide serenely along the river and through a pretty cave. Enjoy lunch served near a beautiful waterfall. After lunch, you can canoe to your hearts content, navigating the tranquil Ba Be lakes. Alternatively, you can go swimming in the crystal-clear water or trekking to visit ethnic minority villages. After dinner, get to know the friendly local people. Overnight at your home stay.
Day 3 : Ba Be – Cao Bang (90km)
Leave Pac Ngoi village and Ba Be lakes and go for a 2-hour walk on a flat road through the beautiful National Park. Meet your driver at the center of the park. Then hit the road again for the 2.5-hour drive to Cao Bang, where the ethnic people of the Hmong, Dzao, Tho and Nung tribes all live together in harmony. Arrive in Cao Bang town at around 1.30pm. Have lunch and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, you are free to explore the town.Overnight in Cao Bang. (Huong Thom hotel).
Day 4 : Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall (130km)
Heading out of the town, venture into the remote northern region of Cao Bang province. The scenic roads traverse Trung Khanh before arriving at Ban Gioc Waterfall, the biggest waterfall in Vietnam (though not full of water in the dry season). Explore an enormous cave with two main entrances and one branch reaching almost all the way to the waterfall where there is a secret entrance. On the way back, stop off to visit some more hill tribe villages and take pictures. Overnight in Dong Khe. (Home stay with Tay or Nung people).
Day 5 : That Khe – Lang Son (160km)
Set off early in the morning to visit the historical cave of Pac Po where Ho Chi Minh set up his headquarters for the August 1945 Revolution. Then go on a half-day drive through the verdant and rugged mountain landscape with its picturesque patchwork of terraced rice fields and hill villages. Traverse Dong Khe and That Khe on your way to Lang Son. This border town was completely destroyed during the Sino-Vietnamese war but was subsequently rebuilt and is now an important trade center for the north-east region. Overnight in Lang Son. (Tam Thanh hotel).
Day 6 : Lang Son – Hanoi (160km)
Visit the central market of Lang Son and the legendary Tam Thanh Cavebefore traveling by road back to Hanoi The journey is long and challenging at times as it takes you through many mountain areas. However, the breathtaking scenery is some of the best in Asia. En route, you will encounter many ethnic minority people going about their daily activities, such as logging, herding buffalo and tilling the fields.
Arrive in Hanoi around 5pm. Overnight at hotel in Hanoi.
Day 7 : Hanoi – Halong Bay – Halong Glory Cruise
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up for your drive to Halong City through the paddy fields in the Red River Delta. Stopover on the way for a refreshment break. Arrive at Tuan Chau wharf and boardGlory Cruises for departure. Welcome drink will be served and lunch is served while cruising through the bay. Visit exciting Cua Van fishing village. The village is free of busy roads and streets, electric lights, houses and high rise buildings. Instead, there are only fleets of little boats and rafts. You will have the chance to discover the traditional culture and customs of the fishermen. Enjoy kayaking or swimming (if the weather permits). Back on board and continue cruising to Drum Cave (Hang Trong) to dock. Dinner is served. Take some leisure time to enjoy chatting at the bar or enjoy some night fishing. Relax and spend a romantic night on Glory Cruise.
Day 8 : Cat Ba Rock climbing
Duration: Approximately 5.5 hours.
Depart – Return: Cat Ba Island Town

Day 9: Cat Ba National Park Trekking – Hai Phong – Hanoi
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the National Park for trekking. Trek in the National park, climb up to visit Ngu Lam. Back to the bus for transfer back to hotel, check out and have lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we get a high speed boat back to Hai Phong.
Arrive Ben Binh Harbor, transfer back to Hanoi. Overnight at a hotel in Hanoi
Day 10 : Hanoi city tour – Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts and the One Pillar Pagoda. Continue on to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Museum of Ethnology, Hoan Kiem lake, Ngoc Son temple and enjoy riding in a rickshaw for 1 hour in the old quarter of Hanoi and its teeming streets filled with fascinating shops. Free at leisure until time to transfer to the airport for the departure.
